Changing your smartwatch band is the easiest way to give it a new look: silicone for sports, nylon for everyday wear, metal for special occasions. But with 38, 40, 41, 42, 44, 45, 46 and 49 mm, it is easy to make a mistake. Here is how to find the right size for your Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch.
Apple Watch: there are only two band families
Good news: despite all these sizes, Apple Watch bands are divided into only two groups. A band from one group fits all watches in that group, regardless of the generation.
Small group: 38 / 40 / 41 mm and 42 mm (Series 10 and later)
- Series 1, 2 and 3 in 38 mm
- Series 4, 5, 6 and SE in 40 mm
- Series 7, 8 and 9 in 41 mm
- Series 10 and later in 42 mm

Large group: 42 mm (Series 1 to 3) / 44 / 45 / 46 / 49 mm
- Series 1, 2 and 3 in 42 mm

- Series 10 and later in 46 mm
- Apple Watch Ultra in 49 mm

The "42 mm" trap
42 mm exists in both groups: the Series 10 in 42 mm is the small size and takes 38/40/41 mm bands, while the Series 1 to 3 in 42 mm were the large size and take 44/45/46/49 mm bands. So always check the generation of your watch.
How to find out your Apple Watch size?
- Look at the back of the case: the size (for example "41mm" or "45mm") is engraved there.
- Or on the iPhone: open the Watch app, then General > Information. The model and size are indicated there.
Samsung Galaxy Watch
The Galaxy Watch 4, 5, 6, 7 and FE use a standard quick-release pin attachment of 20 mm. So the same band fits these models, regardless of the case size (40, 42, 43, 44, 46 or 47 mm).

The Galaxy Watch Ultra (47 mm) uses a specific attachment: it needs a dedicated band, in silicone or in leather.

Which material to choose?
- Silicone: resistant to sweat and water, ideal for sports. Cleans with plain water.
- Nylon: lightweight, breathable and comfortable all day long.
- Metal or Milanese: elegant for the office or an evening out.
- Leather: chic, but should be avoided in the shower or during sports.
